In traffic management is essential to have a robust and uniform tool to deal adequately with control instruments relating them to their physical location on the territory.

We have developed a system for traffic management integrating advanced 3D visualization systems with geospatial data bases managed by Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

This is an advance in the tools for visualization, analysis and decision making from meteorological information provided by the measurement facilities managed by the Traffic Management Center (CGT) in the Northwest of Spain.

The analysis and knowledge of weather conditions on the road network allows the system to predict the areas where intervention may be necessary for road safety operations, and report promptly to the drivers the climatic conditions they will encounter on their journey, via variable message board signs.

The system data is dynamically updated in real time, so the tool interprets results easily, finds the the geographic location of any alerts or problematic situations, and increases the speed of decision making in urgent situations.

System features:

• Real-time visualization of variable message board signs (PMV) at different scales.
• Real size model visualization of boards and its structure and actual location on the terrain.
• Modification of the content displayed on the PMV.
• Use of PMV manager (external application) internally.
